What should I do to get my WiFi ready?

I always had a computer, but my sister gave me a laptop. We use roadrunner home wireless. So how does it work for my laptop? Do I have something to plug into it to get a connection? And what I need for me to get the internet wherever I am with my laptop? I know that most cell phone companies to sell some thing to plug into the computer, but I have to pay separately? Soooooo many questions! Sorry, I just want to know everything I need.

1. Only work if the computer has a wireless card. If not, you should buy one and install it. This is not an easy task if you've never done before. 2. You do not connect any thing to your laptop, where the radio. 3. If you have a wireless card, which will collect all the wireless connections around a radius of 40 meters (which is the limit right now for most wireless routers (g / B)).
