Recent trend since last 2 years has seen the introduction of the small netbook like the Asus Eee PC model ,which took the market by storm is a small handy portable labtop which works well with Window OS and it's software like the MS office . Similar Looks, Different Config
On the comestic outlook design , smartbooks will look similar to netbooks. But its internal config and design is powered by ARM processor technology which are found in 90 percent of smart phones, an ARM core will be paired with other technology from the leading mobile phone chipmakers like of Qualcomm , Freescale and Nvidia
All of these newly installed chips, because of their low-powered ARM cores, will have similar battery running hours to those of the smart phones like eg. Google's Nexus One which 8 to 12 hours of endurance with its battery. Since this processor technology doesn't require dedicated cooling mechanisms, these chips freaks out and enable thinner and lighter designs than netbooks , so therefore Sleeky new Smartbooks with Ferrari design will soon be out on the market
Among some of the up coming models include the Lenovo Skylight , HP Compaq Airlife 100 .These technologies offer a host of benefits beside the standard computer usage in terms of video, USB support , audio, , Bluetooth support, and a variety of WIFI capabilities, one example is that it offers capabilities for wireless wide area networks (WWAN), and smartphone related operating systems such as Google Android, Linux, etc, along with standard phone features. The problems however is that Windows will Not run on such Processors ,which means you cannot run Microsoft application like the Microsoft office but instead used the Android or the upcoming Chrome OS which is specifically designed for Web-only application
Most of these devices are being designed for integration into the mobile carrier services, which are to become similar to the current smartphone data plans offered by Telcos where a wireless data plan will be sold to the consumer.
It is targeted at the Young Savvies today ,who are prone to using the Youtube ,facebook and the many Social networking sites available on the web
With the iPad recent launch at price of USD 499-00 , Newer smartphone (Not customized for Windows ) will have to go as low as USD 200 , The Lenovo skylight is also offering at around USD 499 ,basically there are Not many models to compete with the Apple IPad at the moment , but all these will change in near future , as many newer versions will be out soon , and since the Smartphone are not using the Window OS , New Application customized for application similar to MS Excel ,MS Word or New Games will add On to new Apps cost , and that might frightens Web's user to forego the Smartbook instead .
It is therefore true , that some Manufacturers are also trying to resolve this Windows application requirement .Unlike other smartbooks , Haleron have come out with its windows version , the Haleron device uses neither the Tegra platform from NVIDIA nor the Snapdragon from Qualcomm. Instead, the product is powered by a VIA chip based on the ARM architecture and with a clock speed of 300MHz. The ultramobile device also features a NAND storage capacity of up to 4GB, as well as 128MB or 256MB of memory, LAN 10/100M and WiFi 802.11 b/g. In addition, the device is built with two internal speakers and support for SD cards. Among the operating systems that the Haleron Mini Swordfish smartbook supports are the Windows CE 6.0, Linux and even Windows XP, although the last option will require a processor upgrade.

Generally , Maybe iPad's type of tablet design may be more acceptable , as all of us are familiar with the Labtop's Look and design already , iPad is Unique due to it ‘s tablet design which may find many roles in different application in the Industries such as the Finance and Banking sector , where it can services as a presentation tool , or a mini- sign board where it can be hand over a counter as a tablet discussion tool .
Such requirement may also cause the Manufacturers to come out with more new innovative devices trying to fill up the gap between the laptop and the small smartphone, but in all the biggest beneficiary of this New Media Technology , will be the fast growing numbers of social networking site and the telcos who benefits Smartly from earning revenue of advertisement from the merchant & users of this media tools .

ya i was looking at the archos 5 and it looks awesome......I just dont have enough money for it though.....150-200 is my range
I already have an ipod touch...and it sux for internet browsing....do u know if there is a different but similar and cheaper model of the archos
I-Pod Touch 8GB sells for $199 and comes with built-in WiFi chip however, you need to be within range of unsecured WiFi hot spot bec I-phone and smartphones that access internet pay for monthly data plan. I-Pod Touch 3rd Generation has everything that comes with I-Phone except cell phone, camera and continuous WiFi.
Best deal is Black Friday at WalMart and Target.
