The HP 4000n Network Laser Printer – Specs And Features

The HP LaserJet 4000n Printer comes from Hewlett Packard's 4000 series of black and white laser printers. It has a couple of connectivity options for easy attachment to a workgroup. There's plenty of room for upgrading certain features to easily meet the productivity requirements of any office environment. It can also work on an array of media dimensions, types, and weights. What's more, the 4000N printer toners and enhanced printing resolution allow for impressive output every time.

Within its body is a single-chip 100-MHz Reduced Instruction Set Computer (RISC) processor. With such around, it's possible for the unit to churn out up to 17 pages each minute. There's a RAM of 8 MB already installed upon purchase. But because there are as much as 3 available DIMM slots, expanding the memory to a maximum of 100 MB is possible. This feature enables you to add fonts, patterns, macros, languages, and more.

There are 2 trays for enhanced input media handling. The first tray is capable of handling up to 100 sheets, while the second tray can take up to 500 sheets. Compatible media sizes include letter, legal, executive and custom ones measuring 3 inches x 5 inches to 8.5 inches x 14 inches. Supported media types include plain paper, recycled, glossy, transparencies, labels, envelopes and card stocks. Recommended media weights range from 16 to 53 pounds.

Attachment to an office network is simple as there are two available enhanced I/O (EIO) slots. One is a bidirectional parallel IEEE 1284 port, and the other is a hi-speed Ethernet 10 Base-TX/100 Base-TX card. The 4000n comes with a monthly duty cycle of up to 65,000 impressions. This number, as set by Hewlett Packard, is recommended to be maintained to ensure optimum printer performance. Otherwise, replacement of consumables or supplies has to be done frequently.

To render text and graphics in documents with much clarity, there's a 1,200 x 1,200 dpi (dots per inch) resolution within it. The HP FastRes 1200 works with such to churn out professionally rendered printouts without slowing down the machine. Adding to the quality performance is the new kind of HP LaserJet cartridge. Achieving realistic monochrome images is possible, thanks to the 220 level of gray shades available.

The 4000n measures a total of 16.77" (length) x 15.4" (width) x 18.5" (height) and weights 45.66 lb. Located on top of the unit is the control panel, which contains large buttons for trouble-free operation. Additionally, there's a two-liner display panel that allows you to clearly see options, functions, status and other information.

It takes only 12 second long for the first page to be ejected from the machine, thanks to the Instant-On technology. This allows you to be done with your print job, while other printers are probably just getting warmed up. Languages installed include HP PCL 6 and PostScript 2 emulations. Upon purchase, a CD comes bundled with it. It contains printer language drivers, as well as utilities like FontSmart, Disk Image Maker, ToolBox and Jetadmin.

When used with the HP LaserJet 4000N ink and toner, this device is capable of providing your day-to-day documents with professional quality. Use HP toner with this device, and you'll get crisp and professional documents while minimizing the amount of times you'll need to change the cartridges. Hooking it up to an office network is easy, thanks to the couple of connectivity slots. What's more, this black-and-white laser type of printer has enough room for upgrading to help meet the needs of today's demanding workplace.
